Increasing clock rates, denser packages and higher chip pin-count lead the interconnection system to become the bottle-neck in high performance electronic systems. A method of computing and optimizing transmission line parameters is described. Based on the quasi TEM-approximation all line parameters are determined by only one field evaluation. By variation of geometrical parameters it is shown that the attenuation attains a distinctive minimum. Optimum line parameters are computed depending on the driver property. By considering crosstalk from adjacent lines the method is extended to the optimization of multi-conductor systems
