A diode-pumped, thulium-doped, fluorozirconate fibre amplifier has been used to amplify high-power pulses from a modulated AlGaAs diode laser at 805 nm, using a 100 mW single-stripe diode laser at 785 nm as the pump source. Internal gains in excess of 18 dB were observed in the small-signal regime. The greatest peak output power, observed for a launched pump power of 47 mW, was 12.5 W for pulses of 15 ps duration driven at a repetition rate of 7 MHz
