After Fortran, LISP is the second-oldest high-level programming language in widespread use. Strongly associated with artificial intelligence, its powerful facilities for symbolic processing and incremental development can be of benefit across a wide range of computer applications. The author briefly discusses the use of LISP in AI and then goes on to discuss how LISP works, giving examples of commands used. The structure of programs, environments for LISP, its use, and problems encountered in implementation, are also discussed
