Two standards for cross-platform interchange of multimedia content are OMFI and MHEG. OMFI is currently being reviewed as the only submission to the Interactive Multimedia Association for the Data Exchange RFT. MHEG is an ISO committee effort that has recently moved to Draft International Standard status. We summarize the main features of these two standards and compare them. Additionally we present the design and implementation of an MHEG engine that we have used to interchange content from a commercial multimedia authoring package
