High-speed data transmission using fiber optics in the data acquisition system of the superconducting Super Collider is investigated. Emphasis is placed on the high-speed data transmission system overview, on the local data network, and on subassemblies, such as optical transmitters and receivers. The performance of candidate subassemblies having a low power dissipation for the data acquisition system is discussed
