Optical fibre pulse position modulation (PPM) synchronisation and sensitivity are considered under a jitter penalty. An optimum filter that minimises the sensitivity penalty due to the extracted PPM slot timing jitter is derived. The jitter sensitivity penalty is assessed in the absence of the optimum filter and when the filter is included. The selection of the PPM and phase lock loop (PLL) parameters that minimise the jitter is also addressed
