A hierarchical micromagnetic model of longitudinal thin film media has been employed to investigate the high density performance of transverse recording. The model predicts that linear densities up to 12 bits/μm (300 kfci) can be supported on media of 750 Oe coercivity. This performance is predicted to be maintained in discrete tracks of submicron width, and in the presence of weak exchange coupling between the grains of magnetic material
