Using the new method of dispersion supported transmission, 10 Gbit/s signals from a directly modulated DFB laser at 1.53 mu m wavelength are transmitted on standard singlemode fibre via 151 km without inline amplification. Using one inline optical amplifier, the record length of 204 km is bridged.
