Security for universal personal communications

Evolving architectures for mobile personal communications will provide many new capabilities to users. Voice and data services will be globally available to individuals independent of their location. Unique personal identifiers will allow a person to be reached anywhere in the world, through a variety of communications media, and at a variety of terminal systems. These new services are accompanied by new risks. The author examines the threats to this new environment and possible security services and mechanisms for mobile personal communications.<
