255 mW of 1.06 μm, CW, single-longitudinal-mode, TEM00 output has been obtained by end-pumping a twisted-mode cavity Nd:YAG laser with a 1 W diode laser. The key elements of the laser are two λ/4 waveplates (zero-order) placed at both ends of the laser crystal (Nd:YAG, φ3×8 mm). The fast axes of the waveplates are rotated by 90° with respect to each other and rotated by 45° with respect to an intercavity Brewster polariser. In addition, one of the waveplates acts as a resonator and mirror and input coupler for the pump radiation
