The paper describes a conceptual data model driven programming tool for database query processes. Existing data retrieval and manipulation systems require the use of query languages which demand a more or less extensive knowledge of database (DB) systems, language syntax and control structure. To the typical end-user, the mastery of these languages is highly time consuming and frustrating. On the other hand, a CDM-based approach to DB query design allows for logical abstraction of problems and queries. This means that DB querying can be performed at an abstract level. The authors show that the use of the CDM-based method enables DB queries that require neither the knowledge of any specific query languages nor the knowledge of multiple join paths for complex queries by users. With needed additions and tailoring, the approach can be extended to other database applications
