Presents the structure of a real time speaker verification system and discusses the chosen theoretical approach based on Hidden Markov Modeling (HMM) techniques. Details of a prototype system using a standard hardware configuration including an IBM PC/AT with a signal processor and a transputer card are included. Preliminary results from speaker verification tests are discussed and the paper concludes with a discussion of future possibilities for such systems
