The authors report on new results obtained regarding the use of symbolic techniques in the analysis and design of large-scale networks and systems. Previous results in this area have been limited due to the complexities of the defining symbolic expressions obtained for all but the simplest of networks. The development and implementation of a computational method which successfully addresses this problem is presented. The theoretical approach is made practical through the development of computer programs to generate the symbolic expressions and to reduce them to a practical usable form. An example is given of the application of the method
