It is shown by simulation and experiment that a very good lateral resolution in the ultrasonic annular array system can be obtained, without greatly sacrificing the frame rate, by using only a few annuli (one after another), instead of every annulus, for pulse transmission and by receiving the echo at all annuli to apply two-way continuous focusing.
