The numerical dispersion of the finite-difference time-domain methods can be lowered by using the complex space stencils. Properly adjusting the coefficients of the space stencils results in a further dispersion reduction. However, it is not trivial to determine the optimal values of the coefficients. This paper uses the least square method to optimize various finite-difference stencils. The method is validated by the numerical analysis
