With the increase of enterprise external-cooperation activity, product development has no longer been limited in one enterprise. Optimizing, integrating and utilizing various resources from inner and outer enterprise have become the key factors of product development. Firstly, the definition of the product collaborative development chains (PCDC) is presented, and the characteristics, requirements of PCDC are analyzed. Then the general process of building-up PCDC based on product platform is proposed, which includes four steps: function requirements and development resources analysis, product platform design, PCDC system design and product collaborative development project implementing process. A design methodology of PCDC based on mapping through requirement domain, technology domain and resources domain is proposed. Finally, the decision issues in the process of building-up and implementing PCDC are discussed
