The performance of generalized amplitude-stabilized oscillators is analyzed in terms of an amplitude-stability parameter, or stability figure of merit. Theoretical possibilities of stabilization with ballast tubes, lamps of various types, and thermistors are described, together with a novel oscillator circuit.
