This paper summarizes the different single-user detection techniques for the single-input multiple-output (SIMO) and the two-input multiple-output (2IMO) downlink multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) systems. The corresponding analytical bit error rates (BERs) for all the combining schemes are derived and compared in a unified fashion. The analytical solutions are verified by simulations. According to our derivation, we also find that even only one additional antenna is mounted at the transmitter or the receiver, the problem of noise amplification caused by the orthogonality restoring combining (ORC) scheme can be relieved
