Theoretical costs on general purpose algorithms have been suggested independently from the machine (computer). On an image processing task a computational cost, based on computing time, is introduced showing a discrepancy between theory and practice due to the dependence on computer architecture and programming language syntax. Furthermore, a quality factor is presented to account for the efficiency of the program coding each algorithm.
