Realizations for discrete-time linear systems through input or output map

We develop a simple procedure to obtain minimal realizations for discrete-time linear systems. We express the matrices of the realization in terms of the input or output map of the system. We examine the case of distinct modes then generalize the results to repeated modes. We illustrate the results with examples
