The paper proposes an adaptive reception (AR) scheme for S-DMB systems. Layered streams are generated by adopting scalable video coding (SVC) technique to transmit video data hierarchically over broadcasting channel(s). Depending on the terminal's type, the minimum amount of data frames are adoptively received by employing a frame selection control at the receiver. We quantitatively investigate the benefits in terms of power consumption and available viewing time with a case of S-DMB phones.
