This work presents the improvement of the DC machine torque response in an active load emulation system by using a fuzzy inference system, as a controller in the armature current loop. This controller complements the action of an originally designed proportional integrative controller, which is in charge of controlling the armature current of a DC machine and therefore the electric torque developed by this machine. This modification improves the system response during quick changes in the torque reference, without affecting the proportional integrative controller performance during other operating points.
