We discuss the characteristics of a converged, 10G-enabled, DWDM optical network architecture used to provide carrier-grade service availability, resilience, and protection for a variety of multimedia commercial and entertainment services. By exploiting advances in 10G technology and overlaying OSI layer 2/3 with layer-1 photonics, the network can scale efficiently and provide the most flexibility for current and future service delivery.
