The structure and control of a new voltage source based HVDC transmission link are described. The link uses multi-level voltage reinjection converters. It offers some advantages over PWM-VSC transmission in terms of switching efficiency and valve ratings, while providing similar levels of voltage and current waveform quality. The waveforms and dynamic performance are verified by means of PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.
