Many enterprises frequently commit to requirements and contracts to boost short- term revenues without properly aligning sales, product management, project management, and marketing. Such misalignment results in insufficient capacity planning or product-development resource allocation, thus delaying projects. For this field study, Alcatel's R&D effectiveness team investigated products and solutions within Alcatel's different business groups. We extracted in the first part of the study four seemingly successful product life-cycle management techniques. Then we quantitatively evaluated the impacts of these techniques on those projects. Results verified that when used in parallel, the four techniques can indeed significantly reduce delays
