An online fault detection and estimation method is proposed for linear time-varying systems by using the fault residual, which is obtained from the measured state and output of the system. The filter designed is not only used to monitor the system behaviour, but also can track the fault and predict changing trend of the fault. The stability of the filter is analyzed. Finally, a simulation example is given to show the validity and the applicability of the proposed approach.
