The Space Station Freedom, to be launched by NASA in the mid to late 1990s, will contain a space-to-ground link with protocols consistent with the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) requirements. The space-to-ground baseband signal processing hardware is responsible for multiplexing information from multiple users within the space station and formatting according to the above standard for the return link at 300 Mb/s. The processing hardware also supports the demultiplexing function on the forward link, distributing data from the ground to multiple space station subsystems at 25 MB/s
