Switched diversity with feedback for differential phase shift keying (DPSK) mobile radio is discussed. The technique uses multiple transmit antennas at the base station but only one receive antenna at the mobile. The base station transmits with one antenna that is switched when the mobile informs the base station that the received signal has fallen below a fixed level. The implementation of switched diversity with feedback in a digital mobile radio system is first described, and then the bit error rate performance of the system is analyzed with fading as a function of several design parameters. Implementation of the system is shown to be relatively simple, yet the system is shown to reduce substantially the required received E
