This paper shows that software defined radio is suitable for a less common but challenging application in a receiver for electronic support measures. The architecture of a receiver for passive emitter location is explained and the adaptability offered by SDR is underlined. This receiver is designed and build by TNO and is tested in flight. The first results of the data acquisition flight are given. The results already indicate that SDR is an advantageous technology for ESM receivers.
