In this paper, a technique to estimate the effective bandwidth of the asymptotic waveform evaluation (AWE) method is presented, which guarantee the reliable application of the AWE technique. Firstly, we worked out the coefficients of the AWE model through the normal AWE process. Then, with these coefficients, we got an analytical expression of the model error, and constructed the inequation between the model error and required accuracy. Finally, by solving the inequation we obtained the bandwidth of the AWE method. Numerical results of an example of the parameter extraction of the microwave structures show the validity of the proposed technique.
