The paper proposes an N-path implementation of a switched-capacitor inverter to drive a capacitive load. The need for such a driver stemmed from an ITS (intelligent transportation systems) project that requires efficient inverters for driving electroluminescent (EL) displays. The inverter has been designed to operate in the frequency range of 400 Hz - 1 KHz with peak amplitude of 100 V or more. The proposed inverter circuit employs a vertical siding approach where the sides have varying amplitudes to meet the stacking requirements of a sine wave. The method is suitable for the generation of any type of complex signals. The inverter's frequency stability and digital tunability, adjustability of its amplitude, and no use of magnetic elements are some of the advantageous features of the proposed system. The circuit operations, configurations, and experimental verifications of a 32-path system are presented in the paper
