Chaotic maps have been used in data encryption. We propose a kind of 3D extension method of some 2D chaotic maps. The extended 3D maps have some advantages compared to 2D maps, and is useful in 3D space confusion. A cryptosystem combining 3D chaotic map with spreading function is proposed. And the experiment results show that the algorithm is security against known-plaintext attacks. Thus, it is suitable for multimedia encryption which is of real-time requirement.
