We have introduced a new direction of arrival algorithm that synthetically extends the spatial aperture (synthetic aperture conventional beamformer, SA-CBF) that couples the resolution capability of the MUSIC algorithm and the robustness of the conventional Bartlett beamformer. The synthetic aperture is created bv using a 2D data extrapolation technique from 2D linear prediction algorithm whose number of parameters were selected by a 2D AIC or 2D MDL. Simulation shows comparable resolution to that of the MUSIC algorithm with lower sidelobes.
