In this paper, we propose a self-organizing, self-addressing, fault-tolerant peer-to-peer (P2P) overlay network over Bluetooth scatternet, referred to as P2P-BlueTree. The proposed mechanism exhibits characteristics of fast searching, support of mobility, and simple structure. Bluetooth devices, each is given a special logic address, is automatically organized into a tree structured scatternet. The position-aware logic address can help a node to choose and join the most proper position of tree. Routing cache is created to shorten the routing path. A P2P information sharing system based on distributed hashing table (DHT) is then proposed over the tree-structured overlay. Fault tolerant mechanisms are also proposed to tackle problems such as network portioning, network merge, etc. Furthermore, we investigate the performance of our proposed mechanism via simulations.
