A novel and versatile method of simulating a PWM vector-controlled drive is presented using a circuit analysis package. The difficulties of simulating a vector controller within a circuit analysis package with special reference to advanced PWM control techniques and the accurate placement of the switching edges are examined. Simulation results for a vector-controlled voltage-fed induction motor drive are presented to confirm and highlight the special features of the CAD circuit analysis approach.<>
