A jointly adapting echo canceller and equalizer for a V.32 modem are described. The coupled structure is analyzed and a software solution is presented for implementing the structure on a digital signal processor for real-time data throughput. The importance of this software solution in creating the complete modem function in software for the V.32 modem is discussed
