Online experimentation is one of the promising e-learning applications that the students operate the remote instruments. It is well motivated to use Web services to architect this kind of applications due to the advanced ability of Web services to bridge different platforms and languages. We present our work in using Web services for prototyping a service-oriented architecture for online experiment systems in this paper. We present the methodology to wrap the functions of instruments into Web services and the advanced features the instrumental Web services should have.
