We propose a novel architecture of IPTV-aware multi-service home gateway based on FTTH access network which can provides more bandwidth than 100 Mbps to each subscriber. The proposed home gateway uses EPON network as access network interface and has various interfaces as home network interface. The interfaces for home network are Ethernet, IEEE 1394, wireless LAN, pure PSTN phone and video door-phone system. Our proposed home gateway is characterized to capable of providing multi-channel, more than three, IPTV service of HD class with 20 Mbps for each channel. For the characterizing IPTV service using IP multicast packet, the proposed home gateway uses IGMP proxy and IGMP snooping protocol. In the proposed home gateway with the functions, the multicast packets for IPTV service go from ingress port to egress ports directly based on L2 multicast MAC table in L2 Ethernet switch without via the network processor. The distinctive function improves the performance of the home gateway with alleviating the load of the network processor and encourages providing various services using above multiple home network interfaces at the same time.
