To clarify the electrical characteristics and ageing mechanism of polymeric insulators, a novel separation method of leakage current using differential technique has been proposed and applied in the accelerated 5000-hour ageing test of Electricite de France (EdF's test), which is a multi-stress environmental test to evaluate degradation degree of polymer insulators according as the IEC61109 ANNEX C standard. In this study, the relation between the accumulative charge of corona and dry band arc discharge and the degradation process of polymeric insulators was investigated.
