We introduce a new MAC protocol that provides quality of service (QoS) support in UWB-based wireless local area networks. The MAC protocol allocates transmission opportunities using a joint scheduling and resource control algorithm. The algorithm accounts for unique UWB characteristics, such as the coexistence of multiple simultaneous transmissions, and the possibility of dynamically assigning the nodes' transmission rate and sending power. The algorithm's performance results, which are obtained using simulation, show that the proposed algorithm provides QoS support while optimizing resource utilization.
