LCD column drivers have traditionally used non-linear R-string style DACs. This paper describes an architecture that uses 768 linear charge redistribution 10/12 b DACs to implement a 384-output column driver. Each DAC performs its conversion in less than 15 μs and draws less than 2.5 μA. This architecture allows 10 b independent color control in a 17 mm2 die for the LCD television market.
