To combat error in computer/data communication networks, ARQ (automatic repeat request) techniques are used. Recently Chakraborty has proposed a simple technique called packet combining scheme in which error is corrected at the receiver from the erroneous copies. The technique has a number of attractions. In the paper we propose a modified packet combining scheme that is established as more powerful than the Chakraborty's technique. We also propose to apply error forecasting decoding to control error in network. This may lead to lower delay and higher performance at the cost of extra decoding complexities.
