In automated fingerprint identification systems, an efficient and accurate alignment algorithm in the preprocessing stage plays a crucial role in the performance of the whole system. In this paper, we explore an original ring model to align a pair of fingerprint images based on single singular point. The conclusion drawn from this study is that ring model alignment approach is an efficient and effective one for fingerprint image registration. We believe that with our method a common approaches to image alignment can be achieved.
