Thermal expansion and magnetostriction of polycrystalline Pr5Ni2Si3 and Pr15Ni7Si10 samples are investigated over the temperature range of 5 to 300 K. The results indicate that there are two kinds of magnetic phase transitions in the material, one corresponding to the Curie temperature (49 K) and the other at a lower temperature (26 K) exhibiting characteristics of a spin reorientation transition. The higher transition temperature marks the onset of ferromagnetic order. The second transition is associated with the appearance of an inflection point in both the magnetization (M) vs magnetic field (H) and λ vs H curves. Positive magnetostriction at all temperatures and the inflection point in the λ-H curve is observed at the same magnetic field and temperature as in the M vs. H curve.
