A receiver with m-level integration

Using the information obtained by quantizing a sampled signal into m-levels, the optimal decision rule is given for the classification as noise alone or noise with signal. This is a generalization of Szajnowski's result [4]. Expressions for the detection and false-alarm probabilities are given.
