Biological systems encompass everything from immune and nervous systems to ecosystems. Systems biology, however, focuses primarily on unraveling molecular systems at the level of pathways and groups of pathways in a cell and its neighboring cells. Here we address the challenge of creating an expert assistance system for modeling biological pathways, using current software technology to decrease development costs and complexity. Our goal is to provide computational support to biologists and computational scientists who need to create and explore predictive dynamical models of complex biological systems such as metabolic, gene-regulation, or signal-transduction pathways in living cells.
