Micro Mobility IP based networks, such as Cellular IP network, are studies to support intra domain movements in future IP based networks. Mobility tracking operations in wireless networks are signalling consuming. We propose a new scheme to track idle mobile hosts in Cellular IP networks; it supports a greater reduction in the signalling volume which appears during the user tracking stage. The new method assumes mobile handsets are able to support ad hoc communication. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has better performance compared with current methods of tracking idle mobile hosts in Cellular IP networks.
