The results of an investigation of the major sources and characteristics of radiation originating from AC-electrified railways are discussed. The most significant source of radiation is slipping of the pantograph on the conductor of the trolley network. The spectrum and propagation behavior of the radiation have been obtained by field measurements and data processing techniques. The theoretical propagation characteristics are shown to be in good agreement with the measured results
