The problems of unreliable networks, such as burst error, bit error, packet loss, etc., degrades the quality of decoded video signal. On the other hand, multimedia transmissions over heterogeneous networks require scalable coding to obtain high degree of flexibility from video compression systems. This paper presents a multiple description video coding scheme based on redundant wavelet, which can enhance the robustness of video transmission over unreliable networks, as well as use scalable coding to adapt to the dynamic variable networks. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is feasible and effective.
