This work presents the performance and design of a new variable frequency 48 V voltage regulator module (VRM). Self-sustained oscillation control (SSOC) is used to achieve voltage regulation and high efficiency for a wide range of loading conditions. Thanks to its advantage over the traditional variable frequency (VF) operation; it has a narrower regulating frequency range to achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS). It helps saving the elements ratings. The converter employs synchronous rectifiers on the transformer secondary side to reduce conduction losses as well. MATLAB analytical and PSIM simulation results are presented to validate the superior features of the suggested VRM.
